WHAT IS AN ULLAGE TEMPERATURE INTERFACE (UTI)?
An Ullage Temperature Interface (UTI) is a portable marine gauging instrument used to measure ullage (empty space in the tank), cargo temperature, and the oil-water interface level. HOW DOES IT WORK?
Ullage Detection
The UTI probe emits ultrasonic signals when it reaches the cargo surface. Once contact is detected, the system produces a continuous audible signal, allowing operators to accurately determine the ullage level even in challenging marine conditions.
Temperature Measurement
UTIs use a Platinum Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) to measure cargo temperature. The sensor signal is digitized and processed by a micro-controller within the probe, ensuring high accuracy and compensation for environmental variations.
Oil-Water Interface Detection
The interface function works by measuring electrical conductivity. When the probe reaches water (conductive), the system emits an intermittent signal, clearly distinguishing oil from water layers inside the tank.
